WASHINGTON, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- The National Republican Senatorial Committee said it was pulling advertising from the U.S. Senate race in Louisiana to concentrate on contests in other states.

U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., was seen as the only Democratic senator seeking re-election in 2008 to be vulnerable, The Hill reported. Landrieu won the 2002 election with 52 percent of the vote.

However, Landrieu was comfortably ahead of her GOP challenger, Louisiana state Treasurer John Kennedy, recent polls indicated.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee said it may move funds into races for GOP-held seats once considered safe, such as Kentucky, where Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell faces a challenge and North Carolina where Sen. Elizabeth Dole seems vulnerable, the Washington publication said. Recent polls also indicated show Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., could lose his seat as well.
