Teen sentenced to 39 years in Ohio beating

HAMILTON, Ohio, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- An Ohio judge has sentenced a teenage boy to 39 years in prison for what he called a "horrendous" attack on a mentally disabled girl.

"I find no joy in sentencing you to prison for 39 years," Butler County Common Pleas Court Judge Charles Pater told 17-year-old Joseph Nagel. "That, to me, is the appropriate sentence for the horrendous behavior that you engaged in for one day."

Nagel was convicted in the February beating of 18-year-old Ashley Clark at her home in Hanover Township.

The Cincinnati Enquirer Tuesday said Nagel and his girlfriend, Cheyenne Blanton, beat Clark with a baseball bat, kicked her and cut off chunks of her hair. They also ransacked the girl's home.

The sentence handed down Monday was five years shorter than the punishment Blanton received last week, the newspaper said. Blanton has said she intends to appeal.
