GENEVA, Switzerland, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon discussed Georgia and its breakaway regions with European representatives Tuesday in Geneva, Switzerland.
On Wednesday, representatives of the United Nations, the European Union and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe were to hold a working meeting on Georgia. Ban was to be represented by his special representative for Georgia, his office said.
The 14-year-old U.N. Observer Mission in Georgia is involved in the conflict over Abkhazia but has no jurisdiction over South Ossetia. Both regions declared independence and have been recognized by Russia since Georgia attempted to restore its sovereignty over South Ossetia.
Ban also visited the headquarters of the U.N. High Commissioner on Refugees and had a working lunch with Supachai Panitchpakdi, secretary-general of the U.N. Conference on Trade and Development .
