Scotland: Alleged terrorist trial begins

GLASGOW, Scotland, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Scottish prosecutors allege e-mail messages link Bilal Abdulla to a conspiracy to bomb public transportation sites in London and Glasgow.

In a series of e-mail exchanges, Indian engineering student Kafeel Ahmed, 28, and Abdulla talked about "experiments," which police allege refer to car bombs attacks, The Scotsman reported Monday.

Ahmed died from burns suffered in June 2007 when he allegedly rammed a Jeep packed with gasoline containers into the terminal at Glasgow International Airport.

Abdulla and Mohammed Asha, 28, are on trial in Woolwich Crown Court in Glasgow for conspiracy to murder, the Scotsman reported, noting prosecutors allege Abdulla and Ahmed drove car bombs from Scotland to London the day before the Glasgow airport attack but detonators failed to explode the bombs.

Asha is accused of allegedly supporting Abdulla and Ahmed with cash and equipment. Asha and Abdulla worked as doctors in British hospitals, including the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, Scotland, the Scotsman reported.
