U.S. removes North Korea from terror list

WASHINGTON, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- North Korea has been removed from a U.S. list of possible terror threats worldwide, U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Saturday.

At a Washington news conference, McCormack confirmed reports that U.S. officials agreed to remove North Korea from the terror list as the Asian country had requested, CNN reported.

McCormack said the agreement came after North Korean officials agreed to demands from top U.S. officials regarding verification of ongoing nuclear decommissioning efforts in North Korea.

"Every element of verification that we sought is included in this package," McCormack said. "That's an important point."

CNN, citing an earlier report from an unidentified senior State Department official, said U.S. President George W. Bush agreed to removal North Korean from the terror list Friday night.
