ACRE, Israel, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Arab and Jewish residents clashed in the Israeli city of Acre Friday as cultural tensions increased in the wake of a recent riot, officials said.

Authorities said police managed to separate the people involved in the the conflict and no injuries were reported.

Acre Mayor Shimon Lankri announced that the city's annual Yom Kippur festival has been canceled because of rioting this week, Haaretz reported.

Both Jews and Muslims were blamed for riots Wednesday in Acre.

Public Security Minister Avi Dichter promised to find those responsible for the violent incidents that resulted in two reported injuries.

"The inciters and perpetrators will be located and brought to justice," the minister said.

Haaretz said in addition to canceling the annual Acre festival as a precaution, a large number of police officers are patrolling the city to prevent any additional acts of violence.
