TUCSON, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- U.S. Transportation Security Administration screeners at a Tucson airport said they discovered a human skull in a piece of checked luggage.
The woman who had the skull in her bags told TSA officers at Tucson International Airport that her boyfriend had brought the skull into the country after his military deployment in Okinawa, Japan, KVOA-TV, Tucson, reported Thursday.
TSA officers said the woman told them she was bringing the skull to Philadelphia for Halloween.
The county medical examiner's office said the skull belonged to a human male of Japanese descent who was 20-30 years old when he died.
Tucson police said the matter has been referred to the military's Office of Special Investigation to determine whether the skull was illegally brought into the country.
