Civil servant to be queried on lost files

LONDON, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- The British government employee who left classified documents on al-Qaida and Iraq on a commuter train has received a court summons.

Richard Jackson, a civil servant with the Ministry of Defense, was on temporary assignment to the Cabinet Office when he allegedly took the documents home with him in June. The Metropolitan Police said that he has been ordered to appear in Westminster Magistrates Court on Oct. 20, the Daily Telegraph reported.

A police spokesman said that Jackson is to be questioned on whether his conduct violated the Official Secrets Act.

The documents were found and given to the BBC. One was an assessment of al-Qaida's position in Afghanistan and Pakistan and the other a critical evaluation of the capability of the Iraqi military.
