Rezko sentencing delayed amid talks

CHICAGO, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Attorneys for convicted Illinois political figure Antoin "Tony" Rezko say they have won a delay for his sentencing as he and prosecutors "narrow differences."

Rezko, who was found guilty of peddling his influence in Illinois state government, had steadfastly refused to talk to authorities about his connections with Democratic Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and other politicians. But U.S. District Judge Amy St. Eve Wednesday indefinitely delayed Rezko's scheduled Oct. 28 sentencing, The Chicago Sun-Times reported.

The delay came as Rezko and prosecutors "work together to agree to otherwise narrow differences at sentencing," defense attorney William Ziegelmueller told the newspaper.

Ziegelmueller added there was no sentencing deal in place yet for Rezko. He said Rezko remains in solitary confinement in the federal Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago.
