WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- U.S. presidential candidates John McCain and Barrack Obama took swipes at each other in new television ads released Tuesday.
Both camps responded with allegations that the other side's ads were deliberately deceptive, CNN noted.
McCain's latest spot ominously focuses on news reports that Obama asked Missouri law enforcement officials to target anyone running what they saw as a misleading campaign ad.
CNN said the Missouri television reporter who broke the story told them that the story had been blown wildly out of proportion and that the Obama campaign merely planned to call news conference to rebut any allegations.
Obama released an ad based on a New York Daily News story quoting an unidentified McCain aide who said he feared his candidate was "out of touch" and "out of ideas" on fixing the faltering U.S. economy.
McCain fired back with a written statement from a bevy of economists who warned that Obama's economic plan would raise taxes and squelch international trade.
