THE HAGUE, Netherlands, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- The International Criminal Court Tuesday called for new efforts to arrest Ugandan rebel group leaders after attacks on the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
ICC Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo said he has information indicating that the rebel Lord's Resistance Army's attack on DR Congo in which dozens of civilians have been killed, schoolchildren abducted and tens of thousands of others displaced, the United Nations said in a news release.
Moreno-Obampo said he has evidence that that at the end of 2007 rebel leader Joseph Kony issued orders to abduct 1,000 people to expand his forces, and accused Kony of using recent peace talks to re-arm and attack again.
"Kony is now implementing his plan," the ICC prosecutor's office from The Hague, Netherlands. The office in 2005 issued arrest warrants for Kony and two other LRA leaders, Okot Odhiambo and Dominic Ongwen.
The LRA has fought a civil war with the Ugandan Government since the mid-1980s, during which it became notorious for abducting as many as 25,000 children to use as fighters and porters.
