WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- A murder suspect who escaped a Manitoba prison apparently had an accomplice on the outside, Royal Canadian Mounted Police said.
Jonathon Muzychka, 31, used his prison clothes to get over the 12-foot, razor-wire-topped fence Sunday night at the Headingley Correctional Center west of Winnipeg, a prison source told the Winnipeg Sun.
RCMP spokeswoman Sgt. Line Karpish said Muzychka swam across the Assiniboine River, where a police tracking dog followed his scent to a roadside where the scent ended.
"It's certainly indicative that he may have got into a vehicle," Karpish said.
Muzychka remained at large as of Tuesday morning and the RCMP cautioned the public not to approach him.
He is accused of killing a 46-year-old former acquaintance in July. The man's body was never found and police allege it was thrown in a trash bin and ended up in a landfill site, the report said.
Muzychka also is facing charges of robbery with a weapon and three counts of break and enter, police said.
