LONDON, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- A man in England said he was shot three times in London for wearing a Barack Obama T-shirt.
Dube Egwuatu was buying a cellular telephone when he was confronted by a gunman who shouted racial slurs over the pro-Obama shirt, The Daily Mail reported Tuesday.
The newspaper reported that after the incident Egwuatu zipped up his jacket to cover the image of the U.S. Democratic presidential nominee. The newspaper reported the man then walked to his car.
The gunman again approached him while he was in the car, opening the passenger door and pointed a gun at him.
When Egwuatu turned the car on the gunman shot him three times with his gas-powered ball-bearing pistol, the report said.
Egwuatu, who was bleeding, fled and drove off and found a place to call for help. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where a piece of metal was removed from his jaw.
"I couldn't believe it was happening -- and just because I was wearing an Obama T-shirt. He was trying to make me walk somewhere quieter, saying: 'I've got something for you,' and 'I'm going to kill you,'" Egwuatu said.
