Rapist nabbed by distinctive jewelry

LONDON, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Sentencing is scheduled for this week in London for a rapist who police apprehended because of the rings he wore.

Authorities arrested Daniel Webb after a woman raped in May told police her attacker was wearing two gold sovereign rings and a third ring marked "Dad," The Times of London reported Monday.

Detectives were able to match a description of the attacker's jewelry with an entry on the police intelligence database dealing with sex offenders. When detectives entered the word "rings" into the database, Webb's name came up.

Officers said Webb's home was near the scene of the May rape.

Webb, 22, pleaded guilty July 16 to three counts of rape, two of sexual assault by penetration and one count of robbery, the newspaper said. He is to be sentenced Wednesday.
