CASERTA, Italy, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Authorities in Italy say nearly 5,000 people turned out in Caserta to protest attacks against immigrants.
Saturday's anti-racism protest was sparked by the Camorra mafia's alleged involvement in the Sept. 18 machine gun deaths of seven people -- including six African immigrants, EuroNews.net reported Sunday.
The protesters also rallied on behalf of a Chinese immigrant beaten late last week by a group of teenagers, the news Web site reported.
Additional police and soldiers reportedly are to remain on the streets of Caserta, near Naples, until at least year's end.
