Perez-Olivio maintained he and his wife were ambushed in their car near Milford by gunmen hired by a disgruntled client, wounding Perez-Olivio in the stomach and killing his wife with a shot to the head.

Prosecutors argued Perez-Olivio, who faces 25 years to life, was the lone gunman in a scheme to collect $882,000 on his wife's life insurance policies, reported the Mid-Hudson News Network.

Assistant District Attorney Perry Perrone said Perez-Olivio began increasing his wife's life insurance pay out in 2006 after he was disbarred for stealing from clients.

"His career as an attorney was over -- his career as husband was over," Perrone told the jury.
