MADISON, Wis., Oct. 4 (UPI) -- School officials say the Wisconsin Marching Band will not perform at Saturday's football game against Ohio State because of hazing allegations.
It's the first in at least 40 years the marching band has been suspended from a game, band director Mike Leckrone said at a news conference Friday.
The 300-member band is to remain suspended during an investigation into allegations of hazing involving alcohol and inappropriate sexual behavior, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Saturday.
Only a small percentage of band members were involved in the alleged hazing, but the band shares a responsibility to behave appropriately, Leckrone said, adding any evidence of criminal violation will be forwarded to prosecutors.
The 18th-ranked Badgers were to play the 14th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes in Madison. The UW-Madison band is famous for its raucous "fifth-quarter" performances at the end of football games.
