WASHINGTON, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland lashed out at John McCain Saturday, saying the Republican U.S. presidential nominee doesn't grasp the ongoing economic crisis.
During the weekly Democratic radio address, Strickland criticized the Arizona senator for his Sept. 15 comments in which he said the U.S. economy was still strong despite decreasing jobs and Wall Street woes, The Boston Globe's Political Intelligence blog reported.
While McCain later attempted to clarify his comments by saying he had been referring to American workers, Strickland slammed the White House hopeful for his words.
"John McCain doesn't seem to understand that this crisis isn't two weeks old. Maybe he doesn't realize that we've lost jobs every month this year. Maybe he doesn't know that the average family's income is down $2,000 in the Bush economy," Strickland said.
The Ohio official also referred to another earlier comment by McCain in which the Republican admitted not knowing how many homes he and his wife owned, the blog reported.
"Maybe because John McCain's trying to remember how many homes he owns, he doesn't understand that 7,000 families are losing their homes each day," Strickland said.
