WASHINGTON, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Republican U.S. vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin and her husband, Todd, had a combined income of $166,000 in 2007, tax returns show.

Even though their income was up from $128,000 in 2006, the numbers still made them the lowest-earning of the four major party U.S. presidential and vice presidential nominee households, The Wall Street Journal said.

The Alaska governor's financial information became available on Friday, one day after she repeatedly identified herself as "middle class" in her vice presidential debate with Democratic opponent U.S. Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware, the Journal said.

Her running mate, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who files separately from his wealthy beer heiress wife, Cindy, reported household income of $852,000 in 2007; Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois reported income of $4.2 million last year, which included $3.9 million from book royalties; and Biden reported $320,000 in adjusted gross income last year, the Journal reported.
