Aftenposten reported that nearly four inches of snow fell in Ustaoset, near the Hardanger, this week.

While still in autumn, snowplows were used to clear snow from state Highway 40 over Dagalifjellet, the newspaper reported.

"We have had a few nights with frost and ice-scraping in the morning," said Hilde Hagen of the Hemsedal ski resort.

Hemsedal is scheduled to open for the winter skiing season Nov. 14, but if conditions allow, the ski area will open earlier officials said.
