DOVER, Del., Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden spoke Friday at a deployment ceremony for his son and other members of the Delaware National Guard.
Capt. Beau Biden, who is Delaware attorney general in civilian life, and the rest of his unit left for Fort Bliss, Texas, ABC News reported. After a few weeks of training, they will head for Iraq.
"I have come here many times before as a Delawarean, as a United States senator," the senior senator from Delaware said. "But today I come as you prepare to deploy, as a father, a father who got some sage advice from his son this morning: 'Dad, keep it short. We're in formation.' I always listen to my general."
Joe Biden came to Dover Air Force Base hours after his debate in St. Louis with Republican vice presidential nominee, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
In his brief remarks Friday, he made no mention of the debate or the presidential campaign. Instead, he told the troops to "look out for your brothers and sisters in arms" and promised their relatives would look out for each other.
Palin attended a deployment ceremony last month for her son, Track Palin, who is being sent to Iraq with his U.S. Army unit.
