Obama, McCain debate in Oxford, Mississippi

MADISON, Wis., Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has widened his lead over Republican John McCain in Wisconsin, a poll indicates.

A Strategic Vision poll shows Obama leads McCain 49 percent to 40 percent in the Badger State. In a poll conducted in early September, Obama led by just 3 percent.

President George W. Bush's approval dropped to 15 percent in the poll, while just 12 percent approved of the job Congress is doing.

The poll of 800 likely voters, taken Friday through Sunday, has a margin of error of 3 points.

Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin was viewed favorably by 49 percent of voters -- a six-point slide from September, when she was viewed favorably by 55 percent of voters. The new poll indicated Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden is seen favorably by 44 percent of voters.
