Holocaust denier arrested in Britain

LONDON, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- British law enforcement officials, acting at the request of German authorities, arrested a leading Holocaust denier as he landed at London Heathrow Airport.

Fredrick Toben was held for publishing "anti-Semitic and/or revisionist" material from 2000-04, The Times of London reported. He is accused of running an Internet site that argues the Nazis didn't kill millions of Jews during World War II.

Holocaust denial isn't against the law in Britain but it is a serious crime in Germany, where Toben could be sentenced to five years in prison if convicted.

Toben, 64, of Austria, is scheduled to appear before City Westminster Magistrates Court Friday.

During a bail hearing, Toben said, "the Germans are out to get me," and claimed he was a victim of "legal persecution," The Times reported.

The German-born founder and director of the Holocaust denial organization Adelaide Institute, was arrested under a European arrest warrant designed to fast-track extraditions.
