MALMO, Sweden, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Police in the Swedish city of Malmo say they are hoping to locate the unidentified individual who set off a firecracker in a woman's mouth.
Police said a female train driver at the city's central train station suffered lip burns after the assault suspect placed a firework into her mouth and lit its fuse, the Swedish news agency Tidningarnas Telegrambyra said Wednesday.
"A so-called supporter has placed some sort of firecracker or rocket in her mouth and lit it. She received burns on her lips," regional police representative Calle Persson said of Tuesday's attack.
The incident, which has been classified by police as a serious assault, occurred as Malmo was besieged by rioting and vandalism prior to a major soccer match.
Seven people were arrested in relation to such illicit crimes, including another firework attack that left a police dog injured.
The news agency said police also stopped nearly 20 Danish nationals who they suspected were preparing to initiate a brawl prior to the game between regional soccer rivals, Malmo FF and Helsingborg.
