BAGHDAD, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- A U.S. soldier was killed Tuesday in Baghdad, while elsewhere in the city at least three civilians were killed by a car bomb, officials said.

The U.S. military said a soldier assigned to Multi-National Division-Baghdad was killed after his unit came under small arms fire at 12:15 p.m. in the northern part of the city, CNN reported Tuesday. The military said the soldier was rushed to a medical facility but died half an hour after the attack.

The soldier marked the 25th U.S. military death in Iraq this month and the 4,176th since the war began.

Meanwhile, in central Baghdad, a parked car bomb exploded near a crowded restaurant in the Karrada district and killed at least three civilians, an Iraqi Interior Ministry official said. Eight others were wounded in the blast.

The attack came on the first day of the five-day Eid al-Fitr holiday for Sunni Muslims in Iraq.
