MILWAUKEE, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- A Milwaukee toddler missing for a year has been found, and his mother, who spent months in jail for refusing to reveal his whereabouts, is back in custody.

Police said when they found April Griffin, 29, and her son at the house of a relative Friday she gripped the boy so tightly they had to stun her, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported.

The Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare has custody of the 2-year-old. DeAngela Ellis, a lawyer for Legal Action for Wisconsin, said the father, Matthew Sebuliba, and his son will be reunited soon.

The boy has been the subject of a custody battle since soon after he was born. When Griffin applied for medical benefits, the state sued Sebuliba for paternity and he applied for joint custody.

Griffin was jailed for nine months for contempt of court when she concealed her son. She was released in January because of physical and mental health problems, but a judge warned her she was still in contempt.

Sebuliba, a registered nurse, was awarded sole custody of the boy while Griffin was in jail.
