Early voting begins in Ohio

CINCINNATI, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Tuesday started the period when voters in Ohio can cast early ballots in the November general election, officials said.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Ohioans began casting ballots after the state Supreme Court ruled Monday that Democratic Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner was correct to allow voters to register and cast a ballot on the same day.

Republicans have argued that not allowing time between voter registrations and voting could lead to voter fraud.

The newspaper reported that early voters swarmed the Hamilton County Board of Elections Tuesday morning to cast ballots.

House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-South Carolina, the country's highest-ranking African-American elected official, has told voters to take advantage of early voting.

"Those people who should vote today, should not let that end their involvement," Clyburn told a crowd in Cincinnati. "Vote today, vote tomorrow or the next day. And then spend the rest of the next 36 days getting others to the polls."
