CARLSBAD, Calif., Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Two small plane crashes in a week shouldn't raise concerns about safety at a California airport, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration says.

Ian Gregor of the FAA calls it a "tragic coincidence" that a single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza slammed into a hillside less than a mile from the McClellan-Palomar Airport during fog Sunday morning, The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

A week earlier, a single-engine Cessna 152 plunged into a canyon after taking off from the same airport. Two men were seriously injured in that accident.

Sunday's crash fatally injured an Arizona man who was piloting a plane owned by Statewide Express, an Arizona transportation company.
