Police: Detroit baby shooting 'not random'

DETROIT, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- The fatal shooting of 4-month-old Walter Bogan III in a Detroit apartment was most likely "not random," police say.

Detroit Deputy Police Chief Marshall Lyons said while no suspects are in custody in Sunday's fatal shooting, investigators suspect the killing wasn't the result of random gunfire, The Detroit News said Monday.

"We are trying to figure out why they were targeted. But this was not random," Lyons said.

Police suspect that the hail of gunfire that entered the apartment of Bogan's 25-year-old mother, whose name wasn't released, was likely related to a dispute between two groups of men.

Lyons said that police were investigating the few leads they had and were being aided by the infant's mother, Detroit's WDIV-TV reported.
