MIAMI, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Former Hurricane Kyle was drenching and blacking out the eastern Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island Monday.
In its final report on the storm, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said Kyle reached shore near Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, around 9 p.m. Sunday with winds around 70 mph. It was moving north at 25 mph, and at 6 a.m., the Canadian Hurricane Center in Nova Scotia reported it was bound for Prince Edward Island.
Tropical storm force winds extended 240 miles from the center and as much as 3 inches of rain was forecast for the Maritime region.
However, all tropical storm warnings and watches were canceled.
The storm felled trees and power towers in Nova Scotia, and at least 24,000 customers were blacked out, Nova Scotia Power told the Canwest News Service.
Kyle delivered rain and heavy surf when it passed west of Bermuda but never hit the U.S. coast.
