Tsvangirai: Zimbabwe needs new government

HARARE, Zimbabwe, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- A new government is needed in Zimbabwe so the African country can effectively deal with an ongoing food crisis, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai says.

The country's new prime minister said Saturday additional starvation in Zimbabwe can be avoided if a new government can be created in the next few days, CNN reported.

"We need to respond to this crisis with utmost urgency," Tsvangirai said. "It is therefore imperative that a government be formed in the next few days and begins to implement plans to insure that our people have food and do not die of starvation."

Tsvangirai's call for a strong government during the food crisis comes as he and President Robert Mugabe remained deadlocked regarding the individuals who will fill top Cabinet posts.

The two Zimbabwean politicians have been debating about the posts since they signed a power-sharing deal Sept. 15, CNN reported.
