Three arrested in Mexican grenade attack

MORELIA, Mexico, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Three people have been arrested in a grenade attack in Morelia, Mexico, that killed eight people and injured more than 100, officials said.

Police said the suspects in last week's independence day celebration carnage are members of a unit of the Gulf drug cartel known as the Zetas, the BBC reported Saturday.

The explosions went off Sept. 15 in the capital of the western Mexican state of Michoacan as crowds celebrated. Michoacan Sub-Attorney General Maricela Morales Ibanez told CNN the Zetas are one of two groups fighting for control of the drug trade in the state.

Ibanez identified the suspects as Julio Cesar Modragon Mendoza, Juan Carlos Castro Galeana and Alfredo Rosas Elicea, adding they were taken to Mexico City, the British broadcaster said.
