12 injured in New Delhi market blast

Sept. 27, 2008 at 10:17 AM   |   Comments

NEW DELHI, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Twelve people were injured Saturday when a bomb exploded in a market in the Indian city of New Delhi, officials said.

The blast in Delhi's Mehrauli area came two weeks after a series of explosions targeting popular markets in the Indian capital of New Delhi killed 20 people, the Press Trust of India said.

Meanwhile, Indian police authorities say they have arrested the leader of the Islamic militant group that claimed responsibility for another deadly bombing in July. Mohammed Arif Sheikh, the alleged founder of the Indian Mujahideen, was arrested along with four others Thursday, Mumbai police told the BBC.

He is accused of masterminding the deaths of nearly 50 people in blasts in Ahmedabad.
