PESHAWAR, Pakistan, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Two Taliban strongholds near the Pakistani town of Jamrud have been burned by hundreds of area tribesmen, sources say.
Unidentified sources said after a deadline expired by which the militant group was to have left the region, tribal volunteers attacked the militant bases at Zagai and Tora Kopai and set them on fire, Dawn, a Pakistani newspaper, said Friday.
The sources told Dawn that when Taliban militants attempted to scare away the tribesmen by firing their guns into the air Thursday, one militant was seriously injured in the tribesmen's violent response.
Sources said at least 70 militants were able to flee the area, while three were captured by Malagori tribal forces.
Malagori elder Malik Manaa said those area residents attempting to help the militant group would face fines. He told Dawn that the captured Taliban militants would face a tribal assembly to determine their fate.
