OREBRO, Sweden, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Personnel at a hospital in the Swedish town of Lindesberg say they found a pair of dentures lodged in the throat of an elderly man who died.
The Swedish news agency TT said Friday that after the 94-year-old man was taken to the hospital with a possible respiratory infection, the elderly care facility patient was found to have swallowed his dentures.
Dr. Bengt Jakobsson said the dentures, which the man apparently swallowed days before the hospital visit, likely played a part in his death.
TT said the caregivers treating the man, who died the day after his hospital visit, had not noticed the trapped object and had not fed the man in a week.
The news agency said the incident will be investigated by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare.
