NOTTINGHAM, England, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Police in the British city of Nottingham say a German man suspected in the death of a fellow gaming aficionado following a dispute is in police custody.

Nottinghamshire Police said an unidentified German gamer is in custody in relation to the stabbing death of 20-year-old university student Matthew Pyke, who ran a Web site dedicated to the game Advance Wars, The Times of London said Friday.

Pyke's girlfriend, Joanna Witton, who helped run the gaming Web site, found the student's body in their apartment Sept. 19.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry, leading them to suspect the victim may have known the attacker. Investigators suspect a conflict on the Web site regarding the chess-like game could have led to the homicide.

Several days after Pyke's body was discovered, Witton received an online message from a gamer identifying himself as David Weiss in which he apologized for causing "trouble."

"I'm sorry for having caused so much trouble lately," Weiss allegedly said in a Facebook message.

The Telegraph said Nottingham police are working with authorities in Germany, where the suspect was arrested Wednesday night.
