BOSTON, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., under treatment following brain tumor surgery in July, was briefly hospitalized in Cape Cod, Mass., Friday, officials said.

The senator returned to his home Friday night, CNN said. His office issued a statement saying Kennedy suffered a small seizure.

"Doctors believe the incident was triggered by a change in medication," the statement said.

The Hyannis Port Fire Department told CNN it sent a rescue squad to Kennedy's home, and said he was alert when the ambulance arrived.

The 76-year-old Kennedy has been receiving radiation and chemotherapy, but his office has said he might return to the Senate in January.
