QUEENSTOWN, New Zealand, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- A jet tourist boat carrying about 20 people flipped near Queenstown, New Zealand, Thursday, killing a woman and injuring five other passengers, officials said.
The mid-afternoon accident occurred on the delta formed by the Shotover and Kawarau rivers, New Zealand's TV3 News reported.
The station said the woman's body was found trapped under the overturned boat and efforts to revive her failed.
The other passengers, most of whom were thought to be Asian tourists, also were tossed into the water, TV3 News said.
TVNZ reported five injured passengers were treated at Lakes District Hospital.
Kawarau Jet, which has operated on the rivers for decades, was not commenting on the accident, TVNZ said. The company's Web site said its boat can reach speeds of up to 53 mph and operate in waters on several inches deep.
