Three more charged on Texas polygamy probe

ELDORADO, Texas, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- A Texas sheriff Wednesday was arranging the surrender of three members of a polygamist sect indicted on child-abuse and bigamy charges.

The three were named in five indictments announced Tuesday in the ongoing investigation into the Utah-based Fundamentalist LDS Church.

"The three ... were indicted for sexually assaulting children," Texas

Attorney General Greg Abbott said in a written statement. "Each of those suspects faces one felony count of sexual assault of a child and two of the suspects each face an additional felony charge of bigamy."

The defendants' names will not be revealed until after the Schleicher County Sheriff's Office picks them up or arranges for them to self-surrender, the Deseret Morning News reported Wednesday.

Six church members have already been charged in the investigation and the current county grand jury's term has been extended until the end of the year as the probe continues, the newspaper said.
