DETROIT, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Lawyers for an aide to former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick say they want to know how prosecutors went about obtaining thousands of her text messages.

Christine Beatty, Kilpatrick's former chief of staff and paramour, faces felony charges ranging from conspiracy to perjury to obstruction of justice based on the content of more than 600,000 text messages sent between her and Kilpatrick on city-owned pagers, The Detroit Free Press reported Wednesday.

In their first defense motions, Beatty's attorneys demanded to see the affidavits and subpoenas used by Wayne County, Mich., prosecutors to obtain the materials at the heart of the so-called text message scandal that ultimately forced Kilpatrick to resign.

Beatty's attorneys also demanded Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy deliver a "bill of particulars" detailing how she allegedly committed official misconduct. The attorneys say the charges against her are vague, the Free Press reported.
