MADRID, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Two suspected members of the Basque separatist group ETA have been arrested in France after a wave of Spanish car bombings, authorities said.

Spain's Interior Ministry said Tuesday a man and woman were found with two stolen cars in a forest near Trelins, France, CNN reported.

The arrests came after three car bombings blamed on ETA shook Spain starting late Sunday, killing a Spanish Army non-commissioned officer Monday and wounding 10. The officer died in a blast in Santona, and the French arrests came shortly before his funeral in Segovia, the broadcaster said.

Spanish officials had not positively identified the two ETA suspects in France, but they said that in addition to the stolen cars, the suspects possessed forged identity documents, guns, ammunition and cash.
