PROVIDENCE, R.I., Sept. 22 (UPI) -- The majority of voters in Rhode Island say they think the state has gone in the wrong direction, a Brown University poll indicated.

Seventy percent of voters in the Ocean State say the state is headed in the wrong direction, the Providence (R.I.) Journal reported Monday.

The poll of 652 voters in the state also found that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has a 7-point lead in the state over Republican nominee John McCain, down from an earlier 13-point lead.

Nineteen percent of respondents said they are undecided, the newspaper reported.

The poll, conducted Sept. 15-16, has a margin of error of 3.8 percent.

When asked about vice presidential running mates, 74 percent of respondents said they believed Democratic nominee Joe Biden had the experience to become president if necessary, while 33 percent said the same about Republican Sarah Palin.
