Palin fought polar bear protection

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- The head of a conservation group in Alaska is dissatisfied with Gov. Sarah Palin's record when it comes to the environment and global warming.

Kate Troll of Alaska Conservation Voters says "when you look at her record in the context of what other states have done, including states with Republican governors, her record is weak," the Los Angeles Times reported Monday.

U.S. Geological Survey biologists have warned that if current climate-change trends continue, every polar bear in Alaska could be gone by 2050. Yet, the GOP vice presidential nominee has fought federal protections for polar bears announced in May, the newspaper says.

The Palin administration went to court to question the reliability of projections that the polar bears' habitat is shrinking.

"Palin's insistence that Arctic melting is 'uncertain' is like someone debating the theory of gravity as they plunge off a cliff," Kieran Suckling of the Center for Biological Diversity told the Times.
