RAFAH, Gaza, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Palestinian officials in Gaza say 3,000 people have applied to cross into Egypt this weekend when the Rafah crossing opens for two days.

The pass-through to Egypt opened Saturday to university students, pilgrims and people with medical needs, the BBC reported, noting the border usually is closed as part of a blockade of the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip by Israel and Egypt.
