NEW YORK, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Microsoft founder Bill Gates once again sits atop The Forbes 400 list of the richest people in the United States, the magazine says.
Forbes magazine reported Wednesday that while Gates temporarily had lost the No. 1 position on the list to businessman Warren Buffett, the computer mogul has regained the highest point on The Forbes 400 with a net worth of $57 billion.
The financial list is based on individuals' personal net worth as of Aug. 29, and findings indicated the average net worth of the named 400 individual is $3.9 billion.
The 27th edition of the financial list from the magazine also found that assembled net worth of the 400 richest people in the nation totaled $1.57 trillion. That total represented a 2 percent increase of $30 billion from the 26th edition's totals.
Forbes said among the notable names on the list are TV talk show host Oprah Winfrey, with a net worth of $2.7 billion, and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, with a net worth of $1.5 billion.
The magazine said 31 new names were on the financial list thanks, in part, to rising oil and art prices worldwide.
