Mugabe: Power-sharing deal humiliating

HARARE, Zimbabwe, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe says a new power-sharing deal is humiliating but maintains he will remain in control of the government.

Mugabe told his fellow Zimbabwe African National Union--Patriotic Front members this week that while he is unhappy with the political deal with opposition leaders, he will remain "in the driving seat," The Guardian said Friday.

"Anyhow here we are, still in a dominant position that will enable us to gather more strength as we move into the future. We remain in the driving seat," the president said Wednesday.

The power-sharing deal will allow Movement for Democratic Change leader Morgan Tsvangirai to serve as Zimbabwean prime minister.

Meanwhile, an MDC representative said talks between Mugabe and Tsvangirai regarding a new cabinet have stalled.

Representative Nelson Chamisa said Thursday's meeting between the two politicians was "inconclusive," SW Radio reported.

"The meeting was unfortunately inconclusive because the issues that were supposed to be dealt with have since been referred to the negotiating teams," Chamisa said.
