BRISBANE, Australia, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- A 3-year-old girl has been injured on Australia's Fraser Island after being attacked by a wild dingo, officials say.
Sustainability Minister Andrew McNamara said the wild animal attacked the young girl in the town of Eurong, leaving her with bites on her back and buttocks, the Brisbane Courier-Mail said in its Thursday edition.
"I am advised the little girl was playing near her parents, who were fishing on the beach at Eurong (Second Valley) township when the dingo approached," McNamara said.
"While she did not require paramedic or hospital treatment, her parents have been advised to take her to a doctor as she may need a tetanus injection."
Wildlife rangers are searching for the dingo behind this week's attack and have orders to shoot the animal if it is located.
The Courier-Mail said the incident marked the fifth dingo attack in the region in the last 12 months. The newspaper said the other incidents resulted in the deaths of three of the wild canines.
