Pakistani envoy condemns U.S. attacks

LONDON, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Pakistan's envoy to Britain says raids in Pakistan by a "trigger-happy" U.S. military could spark terror attacks in London.

The "Americans' trigger-happy actions will radicalize young Muslims" in England, said Wajid Shamsul Hasan. "They're playing into the hands of the very militants we're supposed to be fighting."

Hasan, in an interview with The Sunday Times of London, said U.S. attacks on suspected Taliban and al-Qaida sites in Pakistan have killed hundreds of civilians but no militant leaders.

Hasan said the U.S. military had attacked in Pakistan five times in the last 10 days, including in Angoor Adda where 20 people were killed. U.S. officials insisted the dead were al-Qaida supporters while Pakistani officials said they were civilians, including women and children, the Times reported.

Newly elected Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari was to arrive in London Sunday to ask British officials to use their influence to halt the attacks.
