PRINCETON, N.J., Sept. 14 (UPI) -- U.S. presidential contenders John McCain and Barack Obama are still in a virtual dead heat in their run for the White House, a poll indicated Sunday.
The Gallup Poll Daily gives McCain, the Arizona senator who is the Republican nominee, a statistically insignificant 2 percent edge over Obama, the Illinois senator who is running under the Democratic banner.
Of the 2,787 U.S. adults surveyed Sept. 11-13, 47 percent said they would vote for McCain if the election were held today and 45 percent voiced support for Obama. The poll has a 2 percentage point margin of error.
The latest results were unchanged for a third straight day, Gallup said.
Through the campaign, Obama has led by as many as 9 percent and McCain's biggest lead has been 5 percent.
