SHIJIAZHUANG, China, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Results of a probe into infant formula suspected of sickening hundreds of Chinese babies should be released this week, a senior government official said Sunday.

Li Chandjiang, head of the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, said the results of scores of quality tests throughout China would be published in two days as part of the ongoing inquiry into tainted powdered milk that allegedly caused kidney stones in at least 432 babies, Xinhua reported.

Li's comments came after the State Administration for Industry and Commerce put a hold on all sales of Sanlu brand baby milk powder produced before Aug. 6.

The order followed Friday's admission by the Sanlu group that a certain portion of its milk powder products had been found to contain melamine, Xinhua reported.

The Chinese company recalled the potentially contaminated formula and production was halted by Hebie province officials, the state-run news agency said.
